Heat Pump Blowing out Cold AirUpdated a year ago
Inverter heat pumps are designed to blow warm air when set to heating mode. However, there are instances where it might feel like the heat pump is blowing cold air, but it’s actually working correctly. Here are a few reasons why this might happen:
- Air Temperature Perception: The air from a heat pump might feel cool to the touch even when it’s set to heat because the air temperature is typically around 28-33°C, which is below body temperature. This is in contrast to traditional gas furnaces that produce much hotter air.
- Defrost Mode: If the coils in the heat pump freeze, it will enter defrost mode to thaw the coils, temporarily switching to cooling mode. This can result in cold air being blown for a short period.
- Thermostat Settings: Ensure the thermostat is set correctly. If the fan setting is on “ON” instead of “AUTO,” the fan will continue to run even when the heat pump isn’t actively heating, which can make the air feel cooler.
If your heat pump is consistently blowing cold air and not maintaining the desired pool temperature, it could indicate a problem that needs attention, such as a failing reversing valve, a need for servicing, or issues with the refrigerant levels.
