Chlorine not WorkingUpdated 10 months ago
There are many reasons why chlorine doesn't seem to be working or if you can't get Free Chlorine Levels (FCL) levels up on your pool. One of the main causes is you might be suffering from a chlorine lock.
What is a chlorine lock and how do you break it?
Other Reasons why your chlorine is not working:
- pH Imbalance: The pH level of your pool water is crucial for chlorine effectiveness. If the pH is too high or too low, chlorine won’t sanitize properly.
- Organic Matter: Leaves, debris, and algae can consume chlorine, reducing its availability to sanitize the water.
- High Temperature and Sunlight: Warm water and UV rays can break down chlorine quickly, leading to a loss of its sanitizing power.
- Stabilizer Levels: Without proper levels of stabilizer (cyanuric acid), chlorine can dissipate quickly, especially in sunlight.
- Contaminants: Dirt, oils, and other contaminants can use up chlorine as it tries to clean the water.
